The Seymour boys soccer team rallied in the second half for a win Thursday night at Scottsburg, while county cross-country teams ran in meets, and Trinity Lutheran?s boys tennis team was edged at home.

BOYS SOCCER

Seymour 4, Scottsburg 2

Seymour trailed 1-0 at halftime and gave up a goal early in the second half before Scottsburg missed a penalty kick. Then, Seymour senior Andrew Bailiff, whose birthday was Thursday, scored four goals, three on assists from Fernando Cervantes, to give the Owls the win.

Chase Salmon made five goal saves for Seymour.

The Owls (2-1-1) are back in action Saturday in the Batesville Invitational.

Cross-country

Jac-Cen-Del four-way

Trinity?s girls eked out a win in the Jac-Cen-Del four-way, edging the host team 27-28. Milan and South Decatur fielded incomplete teams.

The Cougars? Erika Horton, Brittaney VonDielingen, Ally Posey and Danielle Shelley claimed the fourth through seventh spots, while Allison Voss placed 11th. Voss passed a Jac-Cen-Del runner in the final 300 yards to secure the win for the team, coach Andy Royalty said.

On Saturday, the Trinity boys and girls will run in the Salem Invitational.

Charlestown Invitational

Micah Mains led the Crothersville boys, and Alex Smith was the first Crothersville girl across the line in the season-opening Charlestown Invitational.

Mains placed 34th, while Grayson Barnes placed 37th and Caleb Minton 38th. They finished between 21:06 and 21:26.

?Now, they see where they stand and what they need to improve on,? Tigers coach Carl Bowman said.

Smith placed 23rd in 27:47, but Crothersville had only four girls, so it didn?t have a team score.

On Saturday, Crothersville runs in the Salem Invitational.

Boys tennis

Southwestern (Hanover) 3, Trinity Lutheran 2

Trinity won multiple games at all positions, but Southwestern (Hanover) pulled out a three-set win at No. 3 singles for the 3-2 win.

Henry Welker won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Aaron Bloch won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for Trinity?s points. Chaz Mathis won the first set 6-1 at No. 3 singles, but then lost the next two sets. Southwestern won both doubles matches 6-4, 6-2.

?Chaz?s three-setter lasted until a little after 8. He fought hard but lost a tough third set,? Cougars coach Gary Welker said. ?It was one of those matches that was much closer than the score. Everybody is looking much better as the season progresses.?

The Cougars are 2-2 heading into Saturday?s tournament at Bedford.
